Assessment FOR Learning
What are some of the programs I might use to help me AND my students better understand what they know and can do (as well as understand what they still need help with!)?
Assessment FOR learning is a process that helps teachers AND students determine next steps in the learning process.
What do my students know and/or what can they do?
|
What do they still need to learn?
|
How can this information help me and my students plan next steps in the learning process?

"When it comes to assessments, supporting student learning means focusing on feedback instead of a score or grade."

"Feedback is not praise, advice, judgment, or even inference. And it is not a grade or a number on a rating scale. "The best feedback describes what the student has done well and helps the student decide what to do next. Good feedback motivates, but also transfers a sense of agency to the learner.” - Marge Scherer, Editor in Chief of ASCD's Ed Leadership |
Providing Students with Audio Feedback
VocarooWhat is this? - A simple, easy to use site that records your voice. Use it to give students audio feedback within a digital assignment.
Why might I use this? - Students often find written feedback as negative, only critiquing. When students hear your the tone of your voice they may better understand how to use feedback to learn from mistakes.
What might this look like? - Upon receiving an assignment (i.e., essay, lab report, reflection, etc.), teachers can record feedback for students and insert the file into a Comment of a Google Doc.
|
MoteWhat is this? - A Google Extension that records your voice. Use it to give students audio feedback within any Google platform.
Why might I use this? - As with Vocaroo, students can better understand what you mean by hearing the tone behind your words. Additionally, students can respond with their own audio back to the teacher.
What might this look like? - Upon receiving an assignment, teachers can record feedback for students. The audio file and its transcript are inserted directly into a Comment box of Google Docs, Classroom, Slides, or Sheets.
